The quarterly inventory is not supposed to be emotional. It is a count.
I have run three since the Invincible War. The third is today, and I am going to finish it.
Active: Four sets of field gear. Brit’s, Black Samson’s, Bulletproof’s, Shapesmith’s. Maintained, in rotation, signed in and out with reasonable regularity. Shapesmith’s is largely psychological. He doesn’t need equipment. I maintain it anyway.
Inactive — Reserved: One set. Rachel’s. Category created April 14th. Reserved differs from Inactive. Reserved means there is a hook to come back to. I made that distinction. It is not on the official GDA form, but it is how I am logging it.
The jacket is still on the hook. Form filed, processing delay notation. Third checkbox: still not selected. I am aware.
Pending — Dimensional Operations: Two sets. Amanda’s and Rudy’s. Their lockers are still labeled. Based on documented field reports, time in the Flaxan Dimension moves at an irregular ratio to Earth time — faster there, slower here. Four months on our end. The notes column says: significantly longer for them. I do not update their forms. I update the notes.
No Status Applicable: One set. Rex’s. Equipment destroyed in the field. Personal effects returned to next of kin. Locker cleared. I kept the locker number in the log anyway. RE-07. Assigned to no one. Not ready to reassign it.
There are twelve chairs in the main briefing room. I walked in this morning to run the quarterly and counted, as I always do.
Four active. Two pending. Six empty.
The pending chairs have nameplates. I laminated them myself. I am not going to explain that.
I have been thinking about what a fifth active chair would look like.
Not a rescue mission — I am not cleared for that, I have no intelligence on that, I am not the person who decides these things. But the facility has run on four for four months now. Supply orders for four. Coffee for four in the morning. Four briefing folders.
If a fifth chair were to become active, I would need forty-eight hours’ notice at minimum. There are forms. There are supply adjustments. The kitchen only has so many mugs that aren’t chipped.
This is a practical concern. I am noting it.
Inventory complete. Status columns updated. Notes column significantly longer than last quarter.
Filed. Bottom drawer, right side. Adjacent to the checklist archive, which is labeled ARCHIVE and means what it says.
That’s the quarterly.
